In 1989 the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia until 1993) was exposed to the world of international competition and to the rapid changes in the global economy and had to cope and respond flexibly.
SOPHIA was founded in 1993 in Ceske Budejovice, which lies in the heart of the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, by its current Executive Director, Ms Karla Bauerova. From the very beginning SOPHIA provided highly specialised translation and interpretation services to the local nuclear power plant. It is through this work that SOPHIA acquired its specialist knowledge of the power industry and in particular the field of nuclear engineering.
Over the years SOPHIA has grown organically. As early as 1996 it was classified as one of the TOP 20 Translation and Interpreting Companies in the Czech Republic (Prague Post, September 1996). In the year 2000 SOPHIA was transformed into a limited liability company. Today, we are one of the Czech Republic’s leading translation companies, the first Czech Language Service Provider (LSP) to be certified to the EN 15038 standard, providing its service to a number of sector projects and capable of meeting every customer’s unique needs.
